BOLTON Under 15s must try again to reach the second round of the North West Alder Cup following their 2-2 extra time draw against Trafford on Saturday.
The local youngsters have been without a game for the past couple of weeks due to waterlogged pitches in the local area but they fared well against a strong Trafford outfit in a goalless first half.
Luke Kileen (Little Lever) missed a couple of chances and Adam Worrall (Little Lever) was unfortunate not to break the deadlock when he shot against the upright.
Trafford pressed forward in the early stages of the second half and took the lead ten minutes after the restart with a Michael Warwick goal but Bolton equalised through Kileen 15 minutes from time.
Bolton went in front five minutes later with another Kileen goal but Trafford equalised with a Steven Lunt goal immediately after the restart.
Memorable match
Matthew Eckersley (Turton) just missed an opportunity to give Bolton the lead in the extra time period and Kileen thought he had scored his hat trick only for the "goal" to be disallowed.
Neither side could add to the scoreline during extra time. The game will be replayed in Trafford in the New Year.
Meanwhile, at inter school level, Canon Slade School failed to make progress in the Greater Manchester Schools' County Cup after going down 7-6 to Saddleworth School (Oldham) in their second round clash.
It was a memorable match played on an artificial surface in Bolton and the home side raced into a 3-0 lead after just 20 minutes, with goals from Carl Grimshaw (2) and Paul Evans.
Saddleworth hit back with two in four minutes mid-way through the first half through Paul Preston and Glen Pearson but Canon Slade raced back into a three-goal lead with Grimshaw grabbing his hat-trick and Tim Ress scoring the other to give Canon Slade a 5-2 half time lead.
Saddleworth roared back after the restart and it wasn't long before they were on level terms, thanks to goals from Pearson, Preston and Neil Hamilton.
Stuart Obertelli gifted Saddleworth the lead with an own goal but Canon Slade equalised with another goal from England international batsman Tim Rees.
The game looked to be heading for extra time when Preston grabbed his hat-trick three minutes from time, giving Saddleworth a 7-6 win and a third round tie against Ashton on Mersey School.
Bolton Under 14s run in the Heinz Ketchup Cup also came to an end when they went down 6-2 to Archbishop Beck School (Liverpool) in their third-round round tie.
