THIS was a very important win for the Wanderers - so much so that there is a genuine feeling among a lot of supporters that we can look forward to seeing the team get an automatic promotion place.

We've gone clear of the pack at a very important stage of the season. If we can get another win at Turf Moor on Saturday, we'll really be looking good.

Saturday's was a very professional performance. Wanderers played quite well in the first half although we were a bit perturbed when Carsten Fredgaard went off because we didn't know if he was injured or not. But we still had chances and Ian Marshall and Ricardo Gardner could both have scored

The highlight of the first half, though, was Kevin Nolan's shot and you have to say their keeper did magnificently to change direction in mid-air, when it took a deflection, and pulled off a brilliant save.

Euell and Hartson were the main threat, as we expected, and Gayle was dangerous when they brought him on. But Gudni Bergsson and Colin Hendry were superb while Jussi Jaaskelainen saved everything.

Dean Holdsworth made a big difference when he came on for the second half. He seemed to have a hunger and a thirst for it and when Nolan had another good shot saved, he picked up the rebound and scored from a very narrow angle.

Nolan's improving with every game and Gudni's like a vintage wine but I'm especially pleased with Dean's attitude. He really is a Bolton Wanderer through and through and the fans have really taken to him.

It's fair to say he struggled in his first couple of seasons but his game's right on track now.
