A FORMER Little Hulton man who worked as a senior chaplain at Eton College has died after a car accident in France.
The Rev Dr James Bentley, aged 63, died in hospital after suffering extensive injuries in a collision near his home in the Dordogne region.
The Rev Bentley went to Wharton CP school, Little Hulton, and Bolton School before going to Merton College, Oxford.
In 1975, the university made him a Bachelor of Divinity.
He became a curate in Bury and then vicar of Oldham before lecturing in Christian Social Thought at Sussex University.
He broadcast on TV and radio and wrote books including Ritualism and Politics in Victorian Britain and Cry God For England.
Rev Bentley and his wife Audrey moved to France last year.
Mrs Bentley was in the car but not badly injured.
