DIY giant B&Q has said its existing store in the town will remain trading when a new development opens -- meaning 250 new jobs for Bolton.
It was first thought the Crompton Way Supercentre would close with staff transferring to the new outlet on Bolton Gate retail park, but the firm has confirmed they will run side by side.
This means the 250 full and part-time posts, varying from management positions to customer advisers, will be up for grabs.
The 100,000 square foot development currently being built on the Bolton Gate retail park should open in the middle of next year. It will be called the B&Q Warehouse and will sell a larger stock than is available in most Supercentres.
The new outlet, off Kay Street, will mark the second phase of development at the retail park. It is one of 25 new giant stores which will be opened up and down the country this year.
