SAM Allardyce today added a new goalkeeper to his urgent wanted list following the news that Jussi Jaaskelainen is out for the season.

Wanderers' brilliant No 1 Jaaskelainen was ruled out for the rest of the promotion campaign yesterday after the knee injury he suffered in Saturday's victory over Tranmere Rovers was diagnosed as a damaged cruciate ligament.

It is a devastating blow both to the club and to the 25-year-old giant who has emerged as a class act this season.

It gives patient deputy Steve Banks a chance to prove himself again at senior level and gives Allardyce the job of bringing in a quality recruit as cover.

The manager said: "When you think you are getting things right and people are getting free of injury you get a major injury like this.

"It was at this time last season that Ricardo Gardner got a serious injury and Dean Holden too.

"But we have an excellent deputy in Steve Banks who has been waiting patiently for his chance and now he has got it, it is up to him to grab it with both hands.

"While we have got Steve we also need to look for a loan keeper as cover."

Wanderers are expected to send Jaaskelainen for treatment to the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado, following in the footsteps of Ricardo Gardner who made a successful and high-speed return from a similar injury last year.

The Jamaican was back in action just seven months after suffering anterior cruciate and medial ligament damage.

Early estimates suggest the Finland international could be back within six months.

On a brighter note, the injury which forced striker Michael Ricketts to pull out of the action during Saturday's match has cleared up and Dean Holdsworth is back in training after having stitches removed from the facial injury he suffered in the Yeovil Cup tie.

Wanderers have scheduled their fourth round FA Cup tie at home to the winners of tonight's Scunthorpe-Burnley replay for Sunday, January 28 (ko 1pm).

All three clubs and the FA have agreed the date to give Wanderers an extra day to prepare the pitch following the St Helens-Brisbane Broncos World Club Championship which is being staged at the Reebok on Friday, Jan 26.

Tickets for the Cup tie are now on sale to season ticket holders and will be available to Lifeline members on Thursday before going on open sale from Friday.
