A BID to install three new mobile phone masts at a prime Bolton town centre site has been given the go-ahead.
BT Cellnet Ltd called for the additional masts to be placed at the existing roof-level mobile phone station on top of Churchgate House, Churchgate.
A report to the council's Planning Committee states that the masts would be for "third generation" mobile phones and while they would be visible from street level would not be out of character with the area.
The council received an objection from a business within Churchgate House concerning potential health risks surrounding mobile phone masts.
But committee members were told that the development complied with current Government guidelines on exposure to electromagnetic fields.
