WHITE Coppice started the new season with a comfortable 67 run victory over Darwen with 10 overs to spare. Coppice reached 201 for 3 in their allotted 45 overs, with Dave Jones hitting an outstanding 107 not out.
He was well supported by Gavin Cooper 40, and 22 not out from new captain Steve Harris in an unbroken partnership of 85.
The Darwen wickets soon began to tumble, which saw the visitors slump to 97 for 8, before a late flourish enabled them to reach 134 all out and go home pointless.
In a long spell Steve Hilton claimed 4 for 57 with Mick Brown taking 3 for 56 and Steve Parkinson 2 for 13.
This Sunday, Coppice entertain Halsall in the opening round of the Wadworth 6X National Village Championship over at Darwen.
Coppice seconds were dismissed for 149 on the last ball of the 45th over and missed a batting bonus point.
The highlight of the innings being an impressive knock of 66 from Tony Ollerton with eight Darwen wickets down in only 22 overs, victory seemed a formality but only one further success came and Coppice had to be content with a five points draw.
