SATURDAY
DEAN Holdsworth gets the only goal as Wanderers finally end their winless streak at the Reebok with a victory over Norwich that, allied to Blackburn only drawing at Wolves, puts them back in the hunt for runners-up spot - one point behind Rovers, having played one game more.
SUNDAY
PRESTON beat Watford 3-2 at Deepdale to leapfrog Birmingham into fifth place in the table, strengthening their prospects of a play-off place.
MONDAY
DEAN Holdsworth dedicates his goal against Norwich to eight year old Derian House resident, David Grundy, and teams up with the BEN to launch an auction to raise funds for the Chorley-based children's hospice. Sam Allardyce urges Lennie Lawrence to select his strongest line-up for tomorrow night's Blundell Park clash with Blackburn.
TUESDAY
AUTOMATIC promotion is looking a distant dream after Blackburn win 4-1 at Grimsby to open up a four-point lead. Allardyce, who sees Austria and France draw 1-1 in an Under 21 international, hails Gareth Farrelly as an "outstanding figure" in his team. "He's controlling the midfield and controlling the game," the manager says of the Dubliner, who has been recalled to the Ireland World Cup squad.
WEDNESDAY
WANDERERS' Reserves are left sweating after being held to a scoreless draw by Birmingham City at the Reebok in their final fixture. They must now wait for Wolves and Port Vale to play their games in hand before knowing whether they have avoided the drop. Allardyce checks out Denmark and Slovenia in an international friendly in Copenhagen.
THURSDAY
COLIN Hendry is banned for six games and fined £4,000 by FIFA after being found guilty of violent conduct against San Marino's Nicola Albani in Scotland's World Cup qualifier at Hampden. Ricardo Gardner scores Jamaica's goal in their 1-1 draw in Honduras.
FRIDAY
AS Hendry considers appealing to save his international future, John McGinlay and Sam Allardyce slam the FIFA ban as excessive. Wanderers' hero McGinlay says they have "made an example" of his old Scotland team-mate while Allardyce blames the Scottish media for having a vendetta against the national captain and fuelling the fire.
