Barnsley 0, Wanderers 1
MICHAEL Ricketts scored his 21st goal of the season to keep Wanderers' automatic promotion hopes alive in an historic win at Oakwell writes Gordon Sharrock
The Reebok top scorer showed composure and accuracy with his vital 56th minute strike, set up by a terrific through ball from Bo Hansen.
It proved enough to secure three points that takes the race for runners-up spot into the last week of the season, putting
Wanderers to within a point of arch-rivals Blackburn who meet Portsmouth at Ewood Park on Sunday afternoon (Sky TV 4pm ko).
Barnsley, down to 10 men after having young midfielder Alex Neil sent off for a second bookable offence in the 66th minute, twice went close to an equaliser when substitute, Mike Sheron fired narrowly off target.
But Wanderers, who came to life after the introduction of Dean Holdsworth early in the second half, were good value for their first win at Oakwell for 92 years - a victory which set an all time club record of 13 away wins in a season
And it would have been a more comfortable winning margin had Ricketts, Holdsworth and Gareth Farrelly done better with good scoring chances.
