I HAVE been reading the reports and letters in respect of the issuing of fine notices for cars parking on Tonge Moor Road on Good Friday morning.
The displayed notice reads 'NO PARKING MONDAY TO FRIDAY 8am TILL 9.30am'.
There are no parking restrictions on Sunday. It would appear that the argument is that the residents assume that Good Friday would be regarded as a Sunday, and that their cars could be left all day.
I would respectfully put forward the following points in their support:
a) In law, any person charged and retained in custody must appear before a magistrate within 24 hours, Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday excepted.
b) The Sunday Licensing laws regarding opening times also apply to Christmas Day and Good Friday.
My own personal opinion is that Good Friday should be treated as a Sunday as far as parking restrictions are concerned.
