A WALKER needed to be stretchered from a Bolton country park after it was feared that she had fractured her leg after tripping over a dog.
A passer-by at Moses Gate Country Park raised the alarm yesterday afternoon and ambulance and mountain rescue crews were called.
Garry Rhodes, team leader with Bolton Mountain Rescue Team, said they were called in because the ambulance crew could not get their vehicle near enough to the stricken woman.
Mr Rhodes said the accident happened in an area known as Red Rock and 25 rescue workers were drafted in to help with the operation.
Mr Rhodes added: "When we arrived she was in good spirits and was quite cheerful. We used one of our mountain rescue stretchers to get her to our Land Rover and we then took to the ambulance."
The 54-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital where her leg was X-rayed. She had not fractured it, but may have sustained tissue and tendon damage.
