VICTORIAN images captured by Bury photographer Roger Fenton are expected to fetch £200,000 in auction next month.
Twenty-three original Fenton pictures will come under the hammer at London auction house Sotheby's on May 10. The snaps are part of a collection of 223 photographs from various Victorian lensmen, all owned by New York collector Paul F Walter.
The complete collection is expected to fetch £2 million. All the snaps capture images of Victorian life.
One of Fenton's photographs -- titled 'The Billiard Room, Mentmore -- shot in 1855, is tipped to fetch £20,000. It details a mystery man and woman playing billiards at the home of the Earl of Rosebury.
Fenton was the world's first accredited war photographer and his pictures of the Crimean War can command tens of thousands of pounds.
Fenton studied painting in Paris and was said to be one of Queen Victoria's favourite photographers. He died in 1869 after giving up photography in favour of a career in law.
