AFTER agreeing with my letter, Grenville Moore then sought God's viewpoint, and tells us that according to the Bible, 'There is one lord, one faith, one baptism, one God'. No compromise.

He could no doubt read similar words in the religious scriptures of most faiths.

But in order to understand the Bible, as opposed to taking it as gospel, we must first understand what the Bible is. Grenville says he sought God's viewpoint, but when did God actually speak to anyone, other than in that persons's imagination?

The Bible is a history book, compiled by hundreds of people over centuries of time. It has had numerous translations, and each interpreter has, no doubt, added the views of his particular faith, at that particular moment in history.

The Bible is also a hotch-potch of myths and superstitions, devised no doubt by priests to frighten the uneducated masses into the fold.

A J Cronin wrote "Creed is such an accident of birth, God cannot set an exclusive value on it."

He was right. To believe that Heaven is exclusively for Christians or for any other single religion is pure unadulterated arrogance. We are all God's children, no matter what hymn sheet we sing from.
