AFTER last year's blooming good result, Bolton couple Noel and Sheila Rose are opening up their garden at Breightmet Fold again to help raise money for charity.

The green-fingered couple will open the gates to the rambling site, which is one acre in size, as part of the British Red Cross Open Gardens Scheme on Sunday May 13.

Sheila, who also runs Ring O'Roses Day Nursery, said: "The garden is very old and dates back to the 1770s. We've got a water feature, rock garden and sunken rose garden as well as a woodland trail."

In the last 12 months another bed with conifers has been added along with the usual replacing of plants and flowers to keep the garden looking its best.

The charity's Northern Region Open Garden Scheme was established 61 years ago.

This is the second season for the Greater Manchester Branch, which is once again sponsored by the Cheshire Building Society.

All money made on the day will go to the British Red Cross to continue its work caring for people in crisis in the local community

The gates will be open from 1pm until 4pm with an admission fee of £2 but accompanied children will be let in free. Refreshments will also be available all day including tea and home-made cakes.
