OF the few games that beat the weather, Elton Fold manager Guy Mallinson saw his side continue the late season flourish with a fine 3-0 away win at Monton Amateurs.

All three goals came in the opening 30 minutes with Keith Ingham getting the first two, a low shot into the corner and a half-hit effort which bobbled over the line, then John Armstrong picked up a glorious pass from his two goal strike partner to race clear and strike a beauty past the keeper. The man of the match award went to Ingham.

Fold's Reserves lost 3-1 at home to Wythenshawe Amateurs, David Aspinall the scorer.

Pennington's disastrous run continued in a 2-0 home defeat by Prestwich Heys but in Division One Leigh Athletic's winning surge continued with a 3-1 home victory over fifth in the table Hindsford.

After a rather fortuitous penalty award on the quarter hour mark which Gordon Walker dispatched, Latics scored either side of the interval through Neil Sumner and Rick Wilson before Hindsford got a goal back through Craig Briggs .

The win sees Latics three points clear with two games in hand over Breightmet United. Phil Breakell's side stay in the chase following a 6-0 home win over Avro. Goals came from Paul Gallagher (2), Jimmy Beevers, Paul Smith, John Crossland and Shaun Broughton.

Leigh Athletic have a massive game tonight away at third placed Whitworth Valley, whilst Hindsford entertain Whalley Range. Premier Division pundits were left waiting yet again on Saturday as the eagerly awaited clash between Atherton Town and Stand Athletic was postponed for a second time. The two are now set to clash tomorrow night (Wednesday) at Stand, who face a gruelling week with three games on consecutive nights. The Bury outfit looking for a third consecutive Premier Division championship are at Springhead tonight, Town at home tomorrow and home to Sacred Heart on Thursday. The current table sees Wythenshawe Amateurs top on 52 points from 25 games played, Atherton Town second on 51 from 24 and Stand third with 48 from 21.
