THE burial of carcasses has created an air of suspicion in the area. Incidents which are not related to foot and mouth are being misjudged.
One such incident occurred at 4.10pm on April 26, on the A675 Bolton Road at Riley Green. Inspector Dave Tong, of Chorley's road policing unit said a tractor was drawing a two-axle tipper trailer which overturned, blocking the road for three-and-a-half hours.
Nobody was injured, but an eyewitness at the scene said he believed the trailer was carrying smouldering wood and rumours circulated it had been used for a funeral pyre for dead animal carcasses in the county. The owner of the tractor, who comes from Preston, said the vehicle was being driven by one of his employees.
"It was carrying wood chippings for my own personal use," said the man, who asked not to be named. "It had nothing to do with the waste and animals.
