IT was bad luck for organisers at Westhoughton Carnival when thieves stole 13 curtains which would have decorated the stage used to crown their Queen.
Burglars broke into a hut on Central Park and ran off with a suitcase which contained the 14ft long pieces of material.
The curtains, which had a black background with a floral design, had taken Carnival Queen sub-committee member Joyce Priestly, 68, months to put together.
She said: "I could have cried when I was told they had been stolen, I put so much hard work into them. I think the persons who did this are sick, they are of no use to them.
"The carnival is only a matter of weeks off and we would be grateful if anyone could help by supplying material or helping with the sewing."
The curtains would have been placed around three sides of the lorry, which will carry the Queen in the procession in July.
If you can help Mrs Priestly, give her a call on (01942) 815328, or call Silvia on (01942) 816633.
