IT may be 40 years ago but memories of the Top Storey Club inferno were fresh in many people's minds this week.
Certainly, for Mrs Jackie Webb from Harwood, the years rolled back as she read the BEN special series of commemorative features about the inferno which claimed 19 lives and helped change fire safety laws forever.
She attended the Crown Street club every Monday religiously, until that fateful night when she decided to celebrate her 19th birthday with a meal out.
The decision saved her life. No one survived inside the top clubroom, and four others died jumping 80 feet into the River Croal.
As a mark of respect, Jackie this week laid flowers on the site of the club where the multi-storey car park stands today.
She did this on behalf of the BEN, and so that today's Boltonians would not forget all those who died so tragically on an ordinary May evening four decades ago.
