FIREFIGHTERS came to the rescue when a dog became trapped in railings yesterday morning.
The German Shepherd cross had managed to get its head and front paws through metal railings leading onto a piece of land off Elsie Street in Farnworth.
The fire crew removed a panel from the fencing, but the dog still could not squeeze through and they had to spread the railings apart to release the animal.
A spokesman from the fire crew said: "The dog wanted to bite everyone because it was frightened, but as soon as it was free it ran off and we don't even know who it belonged to."
