THE Big Garden Birdwatch, launched by celebrity gardener Charlie Dimmock has revealed house sparrows are the number one bird in Lancashire gardens.
The world's biggest and longest running garden bird survey, shows that an average of 4.1 house sparrows per garden were recorded in gardens across the county.
The survey, organised by RSPB Wildlife Explorers, the junior section of the RSPB, received data from around 30,000 gardens across the UK.
Gardens are becoming increasingly important havens for birds and other wildlife as natural food becomes less available in the wider countryside.
Charlie Dimmock said: "It is very encouraging to hear that so many people participated in Big Garden Birdwatch.
"Such surveys provide vital information, enabling the RSPB and other wildlife organisations to take appropriate action to help our birds.
