AN illuminated sculpture is set to shine out for the first time in Radcliffe tonight.
Radcliffe Area Board chairman, Cllr Barry Briggs and the Deputy Chief Executive of Irwell Valley Housing Association, Phil Summers, will officially switch on "In the Bulrushes" at 7pm.
Created by artist, William Pym for the multi-million pound Irwell Sculpture Trail, (IST), the new four-metre high piece is situated in Wolsey Street.
The sculpture is the second collaboration between the IST and Irwell Valley Housing Association for a new housing development, Britannia Mills.
To celebrate the completion of this partnership, artist Jack Wright will talk about his sculpture Nailing Home. This will take place next to the sculpture in Smyrna Street at 6.45pm.
Made of galvanised mild steel, In the Bulrushes is inspired by the nearby Manchester, Bury and Bolton Canal. It has bulrush motifs, a canal barge hidden in the bottom of the bulrushes and illumination to transform the sculpture at night.
