SURPRISES just kept coming for birthday girl Esther Dobson.
The amazing 90-year-old topped her ride in a Rolls Royce with VIP treatment from Wingates Band and concertgoers at a local club followed by a party at her Westleigh home.
Esther travelled in style for a pre-90th birthday concert with her daughter Freda and her husband Alan Grimshaw in a 1972 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Mk 1 belonging to Westhoughton club owners Bill and Angela Richards.
Freda said: "She knew nothing about it, she was amazed when the Rolls turned-up at her bungalow in Sovereign Fold Road.
"It was great for Bill and Angela to do this."
To cap it all, a concert at the Richards' Greenfields Private Members Club at Westhoughton included Happy Birthday from the Wingates Band and an appreciative audience including the Mayor of Westhoughton.
Two days later, Esther, who has another daughter Joan, enjoyed a party at her home.
Formerly from Hindley she was married to the late William Dobson, a miner, for 45 years.
He worked as an overman at Leigh's Plank Lane and Bedford pits.
They lived in Lynton Street and Sydney Avenue, Leigh.
