A NURSERY plan has been turned down following complaints from neighbours.
Seven objections were sent in to Wigan Council regarding plans to convert the first floor of Romford Avenue, Leigh, for nursery use.
People living in Romford Avenue and Sandgate Close feared their peace would be disturbed and traffic congestion would worsen if the plan to cater for eight or more three to five year-olds was approved.
Cllr Brian Jarvis backed the locals' views at this week's development control committee meeting.
He said: "Along with my colleagues in Leigh East ward I am concerned about the impact on the amenities of residents in a quiet, residential street. Some of them are shift workers. Children make noise -- a lot of children means a lot of noise.
"Romford Avenue is quite narrow with bends. Already there are severe parking problems and this would be seriously compounded. I know such facilities are needed in the area but this is definitely not the right location." The application was turned down because planners felt non-residential use would create additional noise, disturbance and on-street parking problems.
