THERE have been letters in the BEN lately criticising Victoria Square, but I must say I take the opposite view.
I think the fountains are superb, and a great improvement on the old ones, and certainly more in keeping with the stone Town Hall.
The old fountains always seemed to me a trifle sleazy. And then there are the hanging baskets on various posts, adding splashes of colour here and there, and I noticed the roses were in bloom round the cenotaph.
The granite seats have been criticised, but at least they are vandal-proof and there are plenty of wooden seats further along for those who want a back rest.
Yes, on the whole I consider the present set up in the precinct an improvement on the old. I may be in the minority holding this view, but then again, critics are usually more vocal than the satisfied ones!
