TWO ex-Wanderers stars have joined Leigh RMI to boost their bid to continue their Nationwide Conference success story.
Midfielder Steve Thompson and winger Neil Fisher have been recruited from Halifax and Chester to boost the Hilton Park midfield.
Thompson, 36, but described as "super fit" by RMI manager Steve Waywell, was a Bolton player for over 10 years before moving to Luton, Leicester, Burnley, Rotherham and Halifax.
Tommo was a big fans favourite at Burnden Park and could help swell the RMI support by attracting a few curious Bolton fans for his first game or two.
A free kick specialist who always relied more on expertise than pace anyway, his technique has enabled him to fend off the advancing years and continue to be a force in the centre of the park.
Experience
He will bring a huge amount of experience to the club on and off the park, as will 30-year-old Fisher whose decision to choose RMI ahead of Third Division Shrewsbury Town shows the genuine attraction Hilton Park now holds for professional footballers.
The left sided player turned down the offer of a full-time contract at Gay Meadow to join up with RMI and both he and Thompson will be looking to help their new club build on last season's fifth place in the Conference.
Waywell has been looking to boost his squad during the summer and his concentration has intensified since the £150,000 transfer of Steve Jones to Crewe a fortnight ago.
Fisher and Thompson will fill two of five holes Waywell is hoping to plug in his squad with a goalkeeper, a centre half and a striker still on the list.
Fisher, 30, began his career with Wanderers before moving to Chester in 1995. A brief spell with Connah's Quay followed before he rejoined Chester in 1999 to take his City appearances towards the 200 mark.
