WITH reference to the "Green for Stop" road debate article in the Horwich and Westhoughton Journal on July 5.
The statement that MP Ruth Kelly made is totally misleading, especially most people were for the A522B road as she prefers to call it. She was sat behind me at that meeting, I was there from start to finish and there's no question all the people were AGAINST the A522B for many reasons, including Councillor Harkin.
There were other suggestions for a Westhoughton Bypass, but it was not connected with the Hulton Estate. Most people I talked with preferred the exit 6 on the M61 at Horwich to be the start of the bypass, going then directly to the Wigan area.
Ruth Kelly had an excellent opportunity to express her personal opinions why she is pushing this A522B, which, without any question, will be the first stop to develop the Hulton Estate Greenland, but she remained silent. I find her attitude to this would-be environmental spoilage puzzling, since she was in one mind with the SWAN organisation who are against it. Incidentally I am also a contributing member of SWAN. Perhaps someone close to her should tell her it's just not right to blatantly ignore the opinions of the homeowners, residents, and, of course, the elected councillors of Westhoughton, she is supposed to be representing.
