AN elderly woman is fighting for her life after she was involved in a road traffic accident.
Sheila Batters, aged 69, suffered serious head and pelvic injuries after she was in collision with a car while crossing Wigan Road, Hunger Hill, with her daughter.
Mrs Batters, of Crompton Close, Radcliffe, was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital and later transferred to Hope Hospital in Salford.
Her condition was described today as critical .
Mrs Batters was involved in a collision with a silver K-reg Peugeot 405 as she crossed from the pedestrian island in front of the Three Pigeons pub.
Her daughter, Karen Batters, aged 40, of the same address, was unhurt.
After colliding with the bonnet of the car, driven by Tracey Tomlinson, aged 32, of Webb Street, Horwich, Mrs Batters landed on a white R-reg Rover 216, which was waiting in standing traffic.
The vehicle was driven by 45-year-old Lynn Smith, of Moorside Drive, Penwortham. Both motorists were uninjured.
The accident, which happened at 10am yesterday, caused only minor disruption.
Sgt Ken Carter, of Bolton Traffic Unit, said: "We managed to keep the traffic moving by closing just the pub side of Wigan Road for about an hour to carry out our investigations."
