TWINS William and Lucy Lythgoe have joined a select group of youngsters to be rewarded for their selfless work.
They have received the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Award for their outstanding contribution to a string of worthy causes.
The 13-year-old brother and sister, from Great Lever, were nominated by classmates at The Deane School.
They join 1,200 other young people to have received the honour since it was introduced.
Lucy and William have been praised for their contribution to school life which has seen them:
Help raise more than £500 to enable the school to sponsor a guide dog.
Donate clothes and raise money for the Indian earthquake disaster fund.
Collect vouchers and tokens help get new books for the school.
Raise money for the Derian House Children's Hospice in Chorley.
The pair also helped in the construction of a playground for pupils at Heathfield Primary School.
While the summer holidays may be an ideal opportunity to relax, that will not be the case for the twins.
They will be getting involved in Passport 2002, an activities-based programme aimed at young people, run by Bolton Lads' and Girls' Club.
Martin Witter , their head of year, said: "What is particularly pleasing about William and Lucy's achievement is it has been recognised by their classmates.
"When the organisation was asking for nominations, I went round the classes asking if there were any pupils they thought were worthy of being put forward.
"They all said William and Lucy.
"I am thrilled they have received this award because they deserve it."
But modest William and Lucy said they have only done what anyone else would have done.
William said: "We got involved with most of the charities through school and it has been really nice to help people.
"We were pleased to be nominated and very happy when we received it.
"It would be nice if more people got involved with charity work."
Thanks to William and Lucy, the school now has the right to use the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award logo on its letters.
In return, the school has put William and Lucy forward the Greater Manchester Police Young Citizen of the Year award.
Victor Batrak, acting headteacher, said: "They are a credit to our school and to Bolton.
"They do so much to help others and even still have time to do their schoolwork."
