BOLTON and Bury Chamber is advising companies that it could be legally required to investigate all workplace accidents from 2002.
Mr Steve Horrocks, the Chamber's Health and Safety Manager, said: "A Health and Safety Commission consultation is currently underway which will inform potential legislation.
"As such, it is highly likely that as well as investigating all incidents, employers will be required to keep a record that an investigation has been carried out and that its conclusions have been taken into account in revising the workplace risk assesment."
He added: "It is a good idea for firms to prepare for the potential legislation as good practice in accident investigation will help firms avoid unnecessary accidents in the future and raise their overall business performance."
