I THOUGHT you may be interested in a nice little earner that the "Parking services" have now got.
In April, I parked my car opposite the library in the town centre in the pay and display zone, with a one-hour limit. I was only visiting Age Concern.
On returning to my car, one of the traffic wardens was writing a ticket. A lady who is unknown to me was remonstrating and pointing to my disabled badge. It seems that she also had received a ticket there previously and was very annoyed.
I was told I had parked in a motor cycle bay. I told him the writing on the cobbles was illegible due to wear and tear, and it was not possible to read or understand it. I went to the office in Chorley Street and filled a written objection to this highway robbery, and went home very annoyed. A couple of days later, I read a letter in the BEN from a woman booked after parking in the same bay.
I received a letter which said the area was clearly shown by markings -- "Solo M/Cs Only".This sign was half worn away by traffic. How is the motorist supposed to read that? What concerns me also, is that a sign written on cobbles is in shorthand. Surely it should be printed out fully -- the road is long enough! Also, is it legal to be written? As such, I do not intend to pay willingly.
I suggest simply marking it out in motor cycle lengths, for which I have held a licence since 1963.
