GET into those attics -- for a firm of antique experts are heading into Chorley next week for a special 'valuation day' which might just unearth some treasure.

Specialists from Bonhams & Brooks, a London-based firm of auctioneers, will be at Astley Hall Museum and Art Gallery next Wednesday, August 16, from 11am-3pm.

Eric Knowles -- well known for his appearances on BBC's Antiques Roadshow -- will represent Bonhams & Brooks' decorative arts department.

He will offer advice on all aspects of ceramics and works of art dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries which have an art deco or art nouveau design, such as Clarice Cliff and Lalique.

Meanwhile general valuers Christopher Surfleet and Henrietta Graham will be on hand to offer valuations on antiques of all styles and ages, including furniture, silver, paintings and ceramics.

Valuations may be given from a good photograph should your item be too large to bring on the day. Visitors can leave their items with Bonhams & Brooks who will send them to an appropriate sale room at no extra cost.

Although the specialists will be giving their services free of charge, there will be a valuation fee of £2 for the first item and £1 for each further item valued. All proceeds will be donated to the Astley Hall Museum which

The Museum and Art Gallery will also be open from 12-5pm, free of charge.

Anyone requiring special parking facilities can call the hall in advance on 01257 515555. Bonhams & Brooks ran a similar valuation day at Astley Hall last year. A spokesman said: "It was very busy. Lots of people bring items in because they are curious. We are expecting another successful event.
