THE Asda Logic West Lancs got off to it,s traditional early start last Saturday.
By the time the majority of league competitions get the ball rolling on August 18 the West Lancs lads could already have four completed fixtures under their belts.
Come the heavy winter months that forward planning could be very welcome with a Premier of 16 clubs and 14 competitors in each of Division One and Two.
Tempest United chairman Alan Westhead has been around long enough to know the wisdom of not getting carried away by an opening day 3-0 home hammering of last term,s runners up Dalton United.
The Chew Moor outfit clinched promotion to the top flight last season and have a new management team at the helm. Westhead says, "Mick Bennett and Jon Senior know that survival is the aim this term and we can build from there. It was a really good win for us but Blackrod away tonight will give us a better idea of how well geared up we are."
United,s goals came from Darren Maloney (2) and Steve Settle. Blackrod opened with a fine 1-0 win at Springfields, Darren Shalliker getting the vital only strike, whilst Eagley had a Carl Bancks goal to thank for a 1-1 draw at Garstang. In Division One Turton beat Carnforth Rangers 2-0, Williams getting both, and Stoneclough,s West Lancs debut was a case of down but not disgraced in a 3-2 home defeat by Bae Canberra, Bridge and Finlay the scorers.
Tonight,s fixtures :-
Premier Division - Blackrod Town v Tempest Utd, Norcross & Warbeck v Eagley Div One - Turton v Hesketh Bank Div 2 - Crosshills v Stoneclough, Mill Hill ST Peters v Tottington Utd
