FURTHER to my letter of last week and in reply to Mrs P. Roberts.
Let me start by saying what an excellent traffic warden Mrs Roberts would make, as she, too, is obviously short of common sense and this seems to me to be a pre-requisite for this job.
She can't spend too much time in Bolton and certainly isn't around at 7.20 am, or she would be aware that parking charges do not come into force until 8.00 a.m. I wonder if she would also let me borrow her rose coloured glasses, so that I could see the town centre that she sees, because it's certainly different to the one I and many others see.
I have been overwhelmed by the support and encouragement I have received from friends, colleagues and total strangers who are in full agreement with the stance I have taken. This is not about disabled drivers being given preference or otherwise over other motorists. I am in no way trying to alienate one section of the motoring public against the other. As I said in my original letter, this is purely and simply about common sense. There was not one other vehicle in the vicinity of the Town Hall. I was doing no harm to anyone, I was not preventing any other road user, disabled or otherwise, from parking. As I have already said the whole thing is just ludicrous.
Again, to Mrs Roberts, as it seems you read the Evening News you are surely aware that there are far more letters of complaint about parking in Bolton than there are in support.
Finally, could I just correct a couple of anomalies which appeared in the article relating to me on Monday, August 6.
Edbro Plc is based on Nelson Street, Bolton, and not in Little Lever and the fine is £40 not £20. It's the latter if you pay within 14 days. And as I have already said, I won't be paying.
Mr M Russell
