CHORLEY Marlins swimmers were on sparkling form in the Kelloggs Frosties National Age Group Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
In the pinnacle of their competitive year four Marlins swimmers showed what hard work and dedication can achieve.
The week started well with Keely Barrett in the 16years 50m breaststroke coming within one second of her personal best time to finish 26th overall. Arthur Downing in the 13 years 50m freestyle achieved a new PB of 27.71 secs to finish in 15th position. The next day he finished 14th in the 400m freestyle in another PB time and then Daniel Coombs joined the action in the 13years 100m backstroke finishing in 18th place. The first of Marlin's medals was won in this session when Arthur Downing fought hard to win a bronze medal in the gruelling 200m butterfly event.
Wednesday saw good performances from both Hayley Tobin in the 15year 200m breaststroke, achieving 17th position and Keely Barrett in the 16year 200m breaststroke finishing in 25th. Daniel Coombs in his second event came 23rd in the 13years 200m backstroke. Arthur warmed up on Thursday morning with eighth place in the 200m freestyle event. He then stormed to gold in the 13 year 100m butterfly event in a magnificent personal best time of 1m.3.74s.
Other good perfomances were: Daniel Coombs 18th in the 50m backstroke; Hayley Tobin and Keely Barrett 20th and 28th respectively in the 100m breatstroke and Arthur Downing won bronze in the 50m butterfly event.
