SEVERAL of Chorley Tennis Club's teams suffered this week as a result of key players being away on holiday!
For the 16 and under team, playing away to South Ribble, Simon Brewer partnering Anita Warhurst won their four sets 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, but the two younger children brought in from the 14 and under team to replace regular players fought bravely but were not able to win their sets, so the final score was a 4-4 draw.
Chorley Men's Team, in the Bolton League, had a convincing 8-1 win against second place Lowton B to clinch top spot in their division. Mike Brazier and Glynn Baker won three sets, as did Martin Tattersall and Joachim Langfield and Gary Barker and Simon Hall won two.
In Division One of the Ribble Senior League, Chorley A just lost an exciting match against Ribchester A by seven sets to five. Chorley were unlucky since no fewer than five of the sets won by Ribchester were scores of 7-5.
Chorley B travelled to Wrea Green A, where on the completion of the men's and ladies' doubles the scores were level at four sets all. Unfortunately only Dave Burridge partnering Shirley Brewer were able to win their set for Chorley so the team lost by five sets to seven.
The club coach, Chris Bolton is coaching groups of primary children at the Windsor Park courts during the school holidays with children from St Peter's Primary School taking part in the early part of the holiday.
Coaching for junior members is provided each Saturday morning and each Tuesday evening there is a combined junior and senior club night. Contact Anne on Chorley 411953 for further information.
A six-hour course for children between eight and 16, who do not have to be club members is being run on Tuesday 21, Wednesday 22, and Thursday 23 August from 10am to noon each day. The cost is £12 for the full course of £5 per day. To be sure of a place on this course telephone Eileen on Chorley 416702 or take a chance and just come along to the courts beside Chorley Cricket Club.
