VICE-captain Warren Hegg believes Andrew Flintoff and Mark Chilton hold the key to escaping defeat when the final day of the Roses clash begins at Old Trafford today.
Lancs failed with the bat yesterday and managed to make themselves favourites to lose a match which ought to have ended in a draw after the first four sessions were washed out.
Despite Hegg's determined 77, Lancs descended to a miserable 242 all out in reply to Yorkshire's 467 for nine declared, before following on.
Andrew Flintoff, fresh from a belligerent half-century first time round, gave Lancashire renewed hope in contributing an unbeaten 34 to 74 for one by stumps.
And Hegg said: "We are obviously looking to Mark Chilton and Andrew Flintoff to play long innings. If they can get us past lunchtime we might just have a good chance."
