Nelson's big day out MOORLANDS Farm fisheries near Kidderminster is a firm favourite for match anglers with excellent fishing backed with good facilities. Last Sunday Lord Nelson A.C. made the journey to fish an aggregate match on the complexes Meadow Pool and good returns meant that most had a cracking day's sport.

A bonus peg scheme has been running for the last two years and has proved highly interesting especially because the pot had grown to £100. A few fancied the money to be won when permanent peg 16 was the allotted peg. Richard Caughy was lucky enough to draw it, but of course he had to win the match in order to pick up the money.

The draw prompted him to try a host of different baits in various swims and a steady catch of carp between two and five pounds kept him in the hunt. Meanwhile good catches were being made by other anglers and one such, Paul Sharples, was taking a breather when, all of a sudden, his pole top three shot into the water being dragged into the middle by a decent fish, there it stopped whilst the local car dealer pondered his next move.

After hurried discussions with his neighbouring anglers and a lake official, Pecker as he is also known, stripped down to his Calvin Kleins and went in hot pursuit of his top three as it started to move around the lake, he caught and resolutely hung onto the pole and then swam and dragged himself ashore with the added bonus of landing the fish.

At the all-out, his name along with Barrie Kaye, Andy McKenzie and 'Bonus Peg Richard Caughy' were all known to have done well. But the scales revealed that it was to be Mr. Caughy's day with a winning weight of 39lbs-10ozs that gave him an excellent payday of £166. Others: 2nd.Barrie Kaye 35-14-0, 3rd. Andy McKenzie 35-13-0, 4th. Paul Sharples 34-12-0 5th. Pete Caloe 34-4-0, 6th. Steve Curley 27-0-0.

o When the carp are not showing and the wind is blowing, Shore Top Reservoir can be a tricky place to fish. The high elevation means the water is open to the elements and a ripple is almost a permanent feature, couple that with a healthy undercurrent and the need for plenty of practice becomes apparent.

o All the framers in last Saturday's Craig Cup are masters of the water and they don't come any better than Trevor Bevin who fished both the tip and the pole to get the best out of his peg by taking roach and hybrids on bronze maggot and worm to take the match with 18lbs-9ozs.

Alan Davies stuck to the quivertip and was only just short when he returned a skimmer bag of 14lbs-14ozs, taken with red maggot and worm. Third was John Turton who proved that he is not only a man for the big fish when he caught 8lbs-50zs of small silver fish. Jimmy Thornley was fourth with 4lbs-10ozs.
