BOLTON computer technician Peter Hannigan cheated death when the light aircraft he was learning to fly crash-landed on an Eccles golf course.
Mr Hanningan, on only his third flight as a member of Lancashire Aero Club, watched as the pilot managed to land the two-seater German-built Grob plane when the engine cut out at 8OO feet, narrowly missing power cables. It is thought they were practising flight manoeuvres.
Fire crews and paramedics attended but no one was injured. The plane suffered a snapped nose wheel and broken propeller.
A fire service spokesman said: "He landed the plane and it would have been all right if it had not come down on a tee."
The Air Accident Investigation Bureau have launched an inquiry.
