THE LANCASHIRE GMC U18 Youth Inter County Team won the BDO British Youth Inter County Team Knockout Championship at Kettering, Northamptonshire last Saturday, August 4.
In the First Round the Lancashire lads came up against Cambridgeshire, and thrashed them 8-1. Their opponents in the Second Round were Berkshire, in which they had another good win by 6-3. There was another fantastic 8-1 win in the quarter finals against Gloucestershire.
In the semi final they played Essex, who are well known to have top youth players, but this did not deter the Lancashire lads who beat them 5-4.
Their biggest test was now in the final, because they were up against Glamorganshire, who had won this Championship for the last four years, but the Lancashire Youth lads played with courage and fire to beat them 6-3.
The Youth squad was -- Chris Jackson (Bolton); Lee Fairclough (Adlington); Martin Wood, Joe Murnan (Hindley); Andrew Wilcock, Michael Waterworth (Leigh); Anthony Urmston (Droylsden); Jamie Guilfoyle (Accrington); Hitesh Mistry (Atherton); Gareth Cunliffe (Clitheroe).
Youth officials -- Mick Sweet (Farnworth); Derek Hunter, Keith Fankland (Morecambe); Judith Cunliffe (Clitheroe).
Also, a mention to Anthony Urmston who was joint fifth in the British Teenager Singles Championship, and Joe Murnan who was joint ninth.
To add to the Youth titles they won last season, which was the ANDO Youth U18 and U21, and the overall title.
