THE BEN SAYS: Dumping waste already prompts extreme reactions at local tips. There, workers have been threatened by people who become angry when told they are breaking the rules or who are stopped from scavenging.
Staff there are frequently confronted and verbally abused by people who want to dump trade waste rather than domestic rubbish. Extra CCTV cameras may now be installed to catch the culprits.
It seems ridiculous that tempers should flare in such an ordinary situation. A Bolton security guard was even beaten unconscious at a public tip in Clifton. Unfortunately, this is one more example of people believing that they have the right to do exactly what they like, whatever the laws involved. We look forward to more prosecutions to help deter the selfish minority.
