SAM Allardyce is poised to make a last gasp bid to boost his Premiership squad ahead of Saturday's big opener at Leicester.

The Wanderers boss is hot on the heels of at least one major signing.

Big Sam is still looking to supplement his squad and hopes inside the Reebok that terms will be agreed for one or two big names in the next few days.

Defender Sylvain Distin and striker Pegguy Luyindula are the men linked with moves to Bolton although no confirmation is coming from the Reebok.

Allardyce is believed to be closing in on new blood and is reported to be very hopeful of agreeing terms shortly.

Paris Saint Germain defender Distin and Strasbourg front man Luyindula would cost Wanderers dear but with just £650,000 spent so far in the summer there are still a few million pounds in the kitty to play with.

Twenty-three-years-old Distin almost left his club two weeks ago when Paris Saint Germain received a £3.5million bid, believed to be from Wanderers. That was refused but he has since been made available and it has been reported that Allardyce has gone back with a £4million offer.

Speculation also linked Wanderers with a recently snubbed £2.5million bid for Luyindula and he could be set to return to the French Second Division side with an improved bid.

Meanwhile, the long running speculation that Manchester United winger Quinton Fortune could be on his way to the Reebok remains alive. Although whether there is any truth at all in that story or just a freelance journalist making a lot of money on the back of his imagination is debateable.
