Weather fails to thwart leaders IN weather conditions somewhat less than ideal, only two matches were completed on Monday evening and, not surprisingly, all three leading teams were in action.
At Daisy Hill, the home team batted first against Darcy Lever in a match reduced to 16 overs per side and recorded an impressive 130-9. Adam Irish (31), Craig Atherton (27) and Andrew Davies (23) were all in sparkling form wih the bat whilst Alex Lee (3-37) and Andy Stocks (2-27) were the pick of the Darcy Lever attack.
In a spirited reply, the visitors were bowled out for 95 in the fnal over of the match with Max Baimak (28) and Dominic Gavin (26) scoring freely. The Daisy Hill bowling stars were Craig Atherton (4-17), Karl Irish (3-16) and David Gleave (2-30).
Not too many wickets fell at Elton where their guests, Bolton Indian, took first knock and recorded 106-3. Jitesh (50 ret) and Ketan (19) were the main run scorers whilst Danny Deegan, Peter Lomax, Steven Filkins and Robert Holt all bowled creditably for Elton.
The home team blasted the visitors attack and in just 10 overs their objective was achieved for the loss of 1 wicket. Lee Hamnett (50 ret) and Nick Barrass (33no) were both in terrific form with the bat as Elton cruised to victory.
There was no play in the Astley & Tyldesley v Atherton, Golborne v Spring View or Standish v Lostock matches.
On Wednesday in the re-scheduled match at Darcy Lever, the home side reached 131-4 against Atherton thanks to fine batting from Nick Fawcett (50 ret) and Richard Fearn (40) but excellent bowling by Paul Walsh (3-18) was much in evidence.
The visitors reply was some 30 runs short of their target - Philip Williamson(35) top scored for Atherton and Andy Stocks (3-12) was chief destroyer with the ball for Darcy.
In the final fixtures of the season, Elton will require just one point to secure the league championship. The Johnson Cup Final will be contested between Darcy Lever and Daisy Hill at 'The Levers' - provionally arranged for Sunday 2nd September at 1.00 p.m.
