BOLTON schoolchildren have enjoyed a four-day trip to Berne in Switzerland, one of the cleanest countries in Europe -- and now they aim to learn from the Swiss and make their home town greener.
The trip was funded by Bolton Youth Service and involved children from schools all over Bolton who are members of the Green Generation group, as part of the drive to make Bolton a cleaner and friendlier place to live.
During their stay they made a video and copies are being sent out to all primary schools in the borough.
Cllr Guy Harkin, Bolton Council's Executive Member for the Environment said: "I am pleased that the trip enlightened the children as to how other countries tackle the problem of litter and waste.
"The results of the trip suggest that Berne's success is down to a mixture of people's attitude and the work of the council. It is a very important part of the council's drive to improve the borough.
"These children are the next generation, and I hope they will pass on to others their experience and knowledge of how people can make Bolton a better environment to live in."
