A LEVY on company fuel and energy consumption is a tax on all businesses as they use gas, electricity, LPG and coal, Bolton and Bury Chamber claimed today.
The levy is a result of the Government's commitment to reducing carbon monoxide and other emissions by 2008.
The Climate Change Levy has been introduced to meet the target of a 12.5 per cent reduction.
It is hoped the levy will encourage companies to reduce their energy consumption and help slow down global warming.
Bolton and Bury Chamber says the idea is fine in theory, but the levy may not be easily absorbed by companies into their costs.
The Chamber is holding a seminar on the levy on Wednesday, August 22. It is also offering advice on the impact of the levy and a free consultation to locate areas where companies can reduce energy usage.
