THE Sheltered Housing Home Visiting Project of Bolton and District Citizens Advice Bureau Service has gained £850,000 for the residents of Bolton Council's sheltered housing.

The money has come from previously unclaimed benefits and, by the end of the year, the project aims to achieve £1 million raised for the most vulnerable of Bolton's residents.

Funded by Bolton Metro Housing Department, the project offers advice on welfare benefits. Staffed by two paid workers and several volunteers, the project still needs volunteers who will be trained before joining the project. In turn, volunteering for the bureau can bring rewards for the volunteers. Tricia Euston, training and recruitment officer, said: "Volunteering for the Citizen's Advice Bureau offers a real chance to develop skills, knowledge and confidence."

If you are interested, call at the bureau or ring on 900200, fax on 900212, email on training@boltoncab.co.uk, or write to: Bolton and District Citizen's Advice Bureau, 26-28 Mawdsley St, Bolton, BL1 1LF. Safia Razaq, who acts as a volunteer for the project, said: "Working as a volunteer on the Home Visiting Project has helped to develop my skills and I get the satisfaction of feeling I make a real contribution to the local community."
