RADIO DJ Sara Cox has hit back at stalwart presenter Terry Wogan for branding her show as "in yer face".
The 26-year-old Radio 1 DJ read Wogan's words -- printed in a Sunday Telegraph interview -- live on air during her Breakfast Show.
They included: "There is a stratum of young people in Britain who are being educated and who do have intelligence. I wonder what they listen to." She paused before adding: "They listen to this."
Sara, who attended Smithills School and gained four A-levels at Canon Slade, also read out a letter from her mother Jackie which stated: "Welcome back to the airwaves darling. One week of Terry Wogan is more than enough for me. Lots of love, Mum."
The row followed Wogan's scathing interview in which the 63-year-old said Sara was sometimes "in doubtful taste".
He also slammed shock-jock Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles who told his listeners yesterday: "I was crying inside over Terry's comments because he is someone I respect and love as a human being."
Sara Cox and Terry Wogan are the most popular DJs on their respective stations, Radio 1 and 2. They have each seen ratings soar since they joined the two channels with Sara's listernership rising by 700,000 to around eight million.
A BBC spokesman said: "Both stations have different audiences. Sara caters for her listenership perfectly and is very popular with young people."
