ENTERPRISING volunteers from Bolton Salvation Army are kicking off a new venture which they hope will net them up to £10,000 during Bolton Wanderers' new season in the Premiership.
The organisation has teamed up with the Heritage Somerfield Group to offer match day parking at the company's premises in Cranfield Road near the Reebok Stadium.
Salvation Army fund-raisers were delighted when the UPVC manufacturers offered them the use of their 150-space car park on match days.
"This is an ideal location for fans to park," said Heritage Somerfield managing director Sean Munsie.
"We would encourage fans to use this facility and help us raise funds for the caring work of the Salvation Army."
Officials estimate that they could earn about £10,000 a season from the venture.
"The money will all be put back into the work of the Salvation Army in the Bolton area," said regional fund raising officer Chris Lunn.
A rota of volunteers has been drawn up to man the car park and the company is installing a shelter to protect the payment collectors from the worst of the winter weather.
The new car park unlocks its gates for the first time on Tuesday night, August 21, for Wanderers' game against Middlesbrough.
Drivers will be charged £3.50 per game. Regular fans will also be able to buy £65 season tickets which will include free parking for all FA Cup and Worthington Cup games.
The car park opens for business two hours before kick off, gates will be locked while the game is on and motorists have an hour after the match to collect their vehicles.
As a special treat, the Salvation Army is also offering refreshments, including free tea and coffee, to customers as they pull into the car park for the game against Liverpool on August 27.
