BURY'S Baichung Bhutia has vowed that Bury will stamp out their disciplinary problems.

The Shakers were hit by a £25,000 suspended sentence from the Football Association for picking up 87 yellow cards last season - one of the worst in the league.

Preece vowed to clamp down on players but during Saturday's opener at Tranmere the Shakers picked up a further four bookings.

However Bhutia believes Bury can overcome the problem.

"The manager has spoken to us about it and he's asked the players not to quarrel with the referee about decisions that have already been given," said the Indian international.

"I think dissent was a problem for us and we know we have to cut it out.

"Many players in the Second Division are naturally aggressive on the pitch but there is no point in arguing with the officials. I guess that players just need to think a bit before reacting."

Meanwhile the striker admits that he feels like a new man after playing a starring role in Bury's 2-1 weekend victory.

For two years he has languished on the sidelines but the striker now seems to be in the right form and - perhaps more importantly - the right frame of mind to make the striker's position his own.

"It's going well for me at the moment and I'm feeling good about myself," he admitted.

"From what I've seen in pre-season I think we've got to be confident about challenging for promotion. If we can carry on the way we have been and continue to work well as a team, we have a good chance."

The striker also commented on the takeover situation and how the uncertainty surrounding the club's future was affecting the players. Or, to be more accurate, how it wasn't affecting them.

"There has been a lot of speculation about a possible takeover of the club over the summer but I can honestly say it hasn't distracted the players," explained Bhutia.

"We've just been focusing on the games we've had. We're not really bothered about non-football related matters because there's nothing we can do about them.

"We just try to do well in training and win our games."
