Bradford City Res 0 Wanderers Res 2
WANDERERS Reserves got their FA Premier Reserve League season off to a great start with a 2-0 victory at Valley Parade last night.
Dean Holdsworth struck both goals to force his way into the reckoning for the opening FA Premier League game at Leicester City on Saturday. The striker opened his account in the 14th minute, when he struck home a left wing cross from Paul Wheatcroft.
Seconds earlier the Wanderers had a let off when Gareth Grant fired a Lee Sharpe cross over the bar from just two yards out.
The young Bolton side worked hard throughout, and were rarely troubled at the back. Holdsworth continued to cause City problems, with former Wanderers keeper Aidan Davison saving from the striker just before the interval.
Bolton's second came in the 53rd minute, when Chris Downey drove down the middle. He appeared to have lost the opportunity, but recovered to set up Holdsworth who sent a curling shot from 14 yards high into the net.
It was Downey who came closest to increasing the lead when, five minutes from time, he cut in from the right only to see his shot go over the bar.
Wanderers: Williams, Ross, O'Hare, Ryan, Hunt, Buchanan, Baldaccino, Wheatcroft, Morini, Holdsworth (Taylor), Downey.
