OFFICIALS are stressing that the main part of Moses Gate Country Park is not contaminated.
The council received a number of concerned phone calls after the BEN reported problems caused by chemicals from the former Hall Lane Chemical Works.
It is only an outlying part of the park, on the opposite side of Hall Lane from the main section including the ponds, where concerns have been raised in the past.
There chromium, used in the tanning industry, had leaked from a dump underneath Hall Lane into floodwater and ditches near the former works last December. Doctors warned it could cause skin irritation.
But the council is keen to highlight that apart from a tiny proportion of the park, there have never been any problems.
A town hall spokesman said: "The main park is not affected at all." Organised events such as walks around the park are continuing as normal.
